Partner Commitment Ceremony

In today’s society of de-facto couples and same-sex living arrangements, such couples may choose to publicly express their commitment through a Partner Commitment Ceremony in preference to a Marriage or Civil Union Ceremony.

As with a wedding, the options are endless. A critical component is finding a sensitive and understanding celebrant, prepared to conduct such a ceremony. The choice of words, readings and promises is particularly important and requires careful consideration.

Here is an example of a simple commitment promise:

"In front of all the people we have invited here today, I declare my unconditional love for you as I take you to be my lifelong partner"

The sharing of a small piece of bread or cake and a glass of wine can follow symbolising the promise of sharing together, no matter how little or much.

Similarly, rings, jewellery or other symbols may be exchanged:

"I give you this ring as a token of my love for you and as a symbol of my commitment."

A partnership commitment ceremony is a covenant of love, recording a milestone in the couple’s relationship.
